A Still Quiet Place: Beginning Mindfulness for Parents/Caregivers and Children (offered at the John McGovern Museum of Health and Medical Science)
In addition to my clinical training with children and families, I have worked as a volunteer with various children’s organizations for most of my adult life. In my classes for children, my students call me Annie. I seek to make them comfortable and at ease.
This 8-week course is designed using the curriculum of A Still Quiet Place by Amy Saltzman, M.D. The classes are easy class for children to attend with a parent or caregiver to learn about mindfulness meditation and mindful awareness practices which can be done together at home. Both children and parents have a deeper experience when they learn and practice together.
The classes includes guided instruction, meditation and mindful awareness practices, mindful eating, dealing with challenging thoughts and emotions, group discussion, physical movement, stories, and home exercises.
Children ages 6-8: Sundays, 1:00 – 2:00 pm, January 8th – March 5th
Children ages 9-12: Sundays, 2:30 – 3:30 pm, January 8th – March 5th

Beginning Mindfulness for Teens (offered at the John McGovern Museum of Health and Medical Science) This 6-week course provides an introduction to mindfulness meditation and mindful awareness practices. These classes utilize exercises from Dr. Amy Saltzman’s program, A Still Quiet Place. Classes will include guided instruction, meditation practice, walking meditation, mindful eating, group discussion, and home practices.

INDIVIDUAL TRAINING SESSIONS
While it is often better to attend a mindfulness class or workshop, in order to share insights with others in a group process, some individuals seek one-on-one training due to challenging work schedules or for various other reasons. Ann is available for one-on-one training.
These 60-minute sessions cover the same material which is taught in a mindfulness class or workshop. In addition, Ann is able to work with an individual on specific situations at home, in business or social settings which may be challenging.
Mindfulness sessions are not therapy or counseling. In mindfulness, we are not trying to “fix” any problems. In fact, mental health professionals may refer a client to learn mindfulness as an adjunct practice to assist with his or her therapy.
Sessions are held at Ann’s office, 550 Post Oak Drive, Suite 430. Individual privacy is maintained. Since these are not therapy sessions, no written record is kept.
Applied Mindfulness Trainings are available in one or two day-long modules with Grosvenor T. Burnett, J.D., and Ann Friedman, J.D., Ph.D. through the Mindful Being and The Institute for Applied Mindfulness. Customized programs, more extensive programs and retreats are also available.
Training modules are highly experiential and effective. We bring the benefits of mindfulness into everyday life and the work place. We create learning environments where theoretical understanding is grounded in experiential practices so the participants can feel and understand the theory from the inside out.
Applied Mindfulness Practices are tools and exercises that harness the powerful inner resources already within you, help you develop greater mind-body awareness and promote mindfulness in daily life.
Mindfulness Intensive Workshop for Adults at the Hilton Houston Post Oak
Saturday, November 12th (1:00-6:00 pm) and Sunday, November 13th (1:00-6:00 pm)
This two-day intensive training will cover mindfulness meditation and mindful awareness practices, as well as mindful eating, mindful walking, information on mental and physical health benefits of mindfulness, dealing with challenging thoughts and emotions, and dealing with physical pain. Join Grove Burnett, J.D. and Ann Friedman, Ph.D. at the Hilton Hotel, 2001 Post Oak Boulevard, Houston. (713) 961-9300.
Snacks, soft drinks, waters, coffee, and tea provided. Wear comfortable clothes. We will sit in chairs.

It is helpful to sit with a group on a regular basis with a facilitator. Ann will be present to lead each sit. Ann will provide a short teaching at the beginning of the sit and lead a guided meditation, followed by a short period of silence to practice. She will take questions at the end of each sit. All group sits are held in her office at 550 Post Oak, Suite 430.
You are invited to attend as many sits as you wish each month.
Monthly sit fee: $100. At door: $15 Pay by Paypal (need to set up)
